Harold “Doc” Orvis, M.D., 89, of Onondaga Hill, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday, January 13, 1924, he lived in West Chester, Pennsylvania until moving to Syracuse in 2003. “Doc” served in the Air Force and was a graduate of Guilford College in North Carolina and Columbia University where he received his M.D. degree. A practicing physician in West Chester until retiring in 1993, throughout his working career, he was recognized for his quiet way of helping others. “Doc” was a friend of Immanuel United Methodist Church, member of Q. B. and the Lions Club in West Chester. He was also a former Boy Scout leader and enjoyed being a pilot, traveling and entering his models in the NYS Fair where he was an award winner. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. “Doc” was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Leora Orvis; brother, John Roger Orvis; sister, Barbara Adair; son, Stephen F, Orvis; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Orvis-McWhirter. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Anna Ruth Schlaanstine; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Nick DeLallo of Marietta, New York; son and daughter-in-law, John and Michelle Orvis of Lakewood, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Eve Orvis of Duncannon, Pennsylvania; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and James Andrew of Los Alamos, New Mexico; grandsons, Stephen F. (Dawn) Orvis II of Duncannon, Pennsylvania, Jesse Orvis of Duncannon, Pennsylvania, Patrick DeLallo of Charlotte, North Carolina, Michael DeLallo of Charlotte, North Carolina, John DeLallo of Marietta, New York and Sam Orvis of Lakewood, Colorado; granddaughters, Taylor J. Orvis of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Ruth DeLallo of Rochester and Karlee Orvis of Lakewood, Colorado; great-granddaughter, Natalie Orvis of Duncannon, Pennsylvania; and several nieces.
