Gloria Munro Head, 92, of Fairmount, passed away on Friday at Upstate University Hospital following a ruptured brain aneurysm. She was admitted to the hospital after experiencing a stroke at home on July 11. Born in Buffalo and raised in Snyder, she lived in the Syracuse area since 1955. A graduate of Amherst High School, Gloria received her associate’s degree from Harcum College. She was employed by BOCES as a food service worker, and later worked for the Solvay Glass marketing dept. Gloria also was a tennis and fitness instructor. A former member of Fairmount Community Church UCC, she enjoyed her lunch and bridge table at the Camillus Senior Center and water aerobics at the Downtown YMCA. Above all, Gloria loved spending time with her family and friends.
Gloria was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Munro; second husband, Frederic Head; daughter, Allison Munro; parents, Lucille and Bruce Sweet; and sisters, Virginia Andrews, Martha Anderson and Susan McAllister.
Surviving are her sons, Steven (Linda) Munro of Morgantown, WV, and Scott Munro of Fairmount; daughter, Laurie (Alan) Packer of Boston; grandchildren, Adam, Charlie, and Kayla; step-grandchildren, Alex and Elizabeth; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Gloria’s family would like to thank the neurostroke team at Upstate Hospital for their loving kindness and care.
To celebrate Gloria’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home.
Gloria will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery, Syracuse, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Downtown YMCA, 340 Montgomery St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
