Gilson Smith

Gilson C. Smith, 69, of Camillus, passed away Saturday at Community General Hospital. Born in Wantagh, he was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. Gilson graduated from Wantagh High School, SUNY Cortland and Syracuse University. He taught for 34 years at East Syracuse Minoa School District, retiring in 1996. An avid NY Mets baseball fan, he also enjoyed fishing, antique refinishing and was a hobby train collector. Gilson enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Joan Warne; daughter, Donna (David) Ball of Camillus; granddaughter, Alexa Ball; brother, Bert of Charlotte, NC; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Coaches Vs.
