Gertrude Graser Farrington McGuire, 102, of Camillus, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at The Centers at St. Camillus. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, she was a graduate of Cathedral High School and Central City Business School. Gertrude retired in 1980 after 44 years with The Herald Co. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of its Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Club, Salvation Army Youth Group, Bellevue Country Club and president of the Syracuse Turners Auxiliary and Honorary Society.
Gertrude was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Farrington, in 1993; second husband, John C. McGuire, in 2000; sister, Catherine Flavin, in 1942; and brothers, Leo Graser, in 1996 and William N. Graser, in 2004.
Surviving are her sister, Mary Roickle; nephews, William Graser of Camillus, Edward Roickle of New Woodstock, Robert Roickle of Onondaga Hill and Lee Graser of Tennessee; nieces, Donna Scutt of Lakeland, Mary A. Roickle of Columbia, CT and Rosemary Ryan of Chittenango; stepsons, Patrick A. McGuire of Abingdon, MD and Joseph M. McGuire of Washington, DC; and stepdaughters, Mary Grace Kelley of Marcellus and Roseanne Hennigan of Camillus.
Per Gertrude’s request, there will be no calling hours.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 24 at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
