Gerardo “Gerry” Mastronardi, 69, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. Born in Torrice, Italy, he immigrated to New York City in 1975 before moving to the Syracuse area in 1980. He was a painting contractor who owned and operated GM Decorating for 38 years. His accomplishments in painting can be seen in some of the finest homes and establishments in the Syracuse area. Gerry’s interests included the outdoors, gardening, bocce ball, classic cars, and attending his son’s concerts and events. He enjoyed winemaking and curing meats to share. His pride was in his family and grandchildren.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Cesare and Pierina Mastronardi.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Laureen Raite; children, Daniel (Morgan) of Syracuse, Matthew (Darnelle Radford) of Philadelphia, PA, Michael (Nicole) of Syracuse and Sarah (Brandon Long) of Syracuse; granddaughters, Stella, Eliza, Ruby and Margo; brothers, Giuseppe (Luciana), Pasqualino (Rosa) and Benedetto (Maria) Mastronardi, all of Torrice, Italy; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, June 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Gerry will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery in Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 1120 South Goodman St., Rochester, NY 14620.
