Gerald M. "Gerry" Waldon, 69, of Liverpool, passed away Tuesday at Crouse Hospital after a brief illness. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, Gerry retired in 2013 after working 40 years at Carrier Corp. in the International Customer Service Group. A 1962 graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy, he joined the Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam as a medic. Gerry was a member of the CNY Softball Umpires' Assoc., which later became affiliated with USSSA. He held the positions of secretary and treasurer for ten years and president for nine. After umpiring for 25 years, Gerry and his daughter, Kathy, ran the Solvay Men's Softball League for 10 years and enjoyed holding annual softball tournaments. He was elected into the USSSA Hall of Fame. An avid SU sports fan, he was a football season ticket holder since 1962. Gerry was predeceased by his father, Harold, in 1998; and mother, Constance, in 2013. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, the former Diane Rybak; daughter, Kathleen Waldon of Liverpool; sister, Constance (James) Anderson of Canandaigua; and several nieces and nephews. In following Gerry's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
