Gerald P. Berkery, 83, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Saturday at his home. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, Gerald's life was marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for his family and community.
Gerald graduated from St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School, went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Le Moyne College, and received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Syracuse University. Admitted to practice law in New York State in 1969, Gerald served the legal community for over 40 years, maintaining offices in the State Tower Building. His commitment to justice and his clients was unwavering.
A devoted communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Gerald was also an active member of the NYS Bar Association. He enjoyed spending time at the YMCA and was passionate about camping and fishing with his grandchildren. An avid reader with a keen interest in history, Gerald also enjoyed watching television and cheering for the SU sports teams. His Irish heritage was a source of great pride for him.
Above all, Gerald cherished moments spent with his family and friends. His warmth and kindness touched many lives, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Mary Berkery; his sister-in-law, Mary Sue Berkery; and his stepson, Richard Stearns.
Surviving are his loving wife of 25 years, Joanna; son, Michael (Lisa) Berkery of Minetto; stepson, Todd Stearns of Camillus; stepdaughter, Lisa (Kenneth) Roffo of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard of Baldwinsville and David (Patricia) of Syracuse; sister, Patricia Hall of Fairport; and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins in Ireland.
To celebrate Gerald’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee Street, Camillus, NY 13031.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Gerald will be laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Joseph's Church Food Pantry, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
Gerald's generosity and spirit will continue to nourish and support the community he loved so dearly.
