George W. Cook Jr., 92, of Syracuse, passed away Friday, August 7, 2009 at Francis House. Born in Staten Island on Monday, November 27, 1916, he was the son of George William Cook Sr. and Laura Buttiglieri Cook. He was a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area. George was a graduate of North High School and Syracuse University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A contract administrator for General Electric Co., he retired in 1980 after 29 years. He was an enthusiastic member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He was an avid hiker, canoer and HAM Radio operator. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Stahler; sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Maggie Cook of Fayetteville, George Cook of Oceanport, New Jersey and Donald Cook of Barnegat, New Jersey; grandchildren, Christopher, Kyle, Adam and Andrew; and great-grandchildren, Chloe, Abigail and Samantha. There will be no services. Relatives and friends may call Monday, August 10, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
