George Pavlyak, 89, of Fairmount, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Born in Auburn on Sunday, April 25, 1920, he was the son of Michael Pavlyak and Nellie Kocur Pavlyak. He lived in the Syracuse area since 1953. George was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed for over 30 years with Dr. John Kavanagh in DeWitt. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. George was a member of the Solvay VFW Post #2893 and the New York State Society of Opticians. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his yard. George was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Kosct and Helen Pirrone. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Mary Cerza; daughter, Michele Pavlyak of Irving, Texas; son, George of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, George II and Alissa Pavlyak; sister, Mary Pantalos of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 17 in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Friday, April 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
