George O. Caron, 97, of Camillus, passed away peacefully Thursday at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, he moved to the Syracuse area in 1954. George served in the Canadian Army during World War II and was a former member of the Canadian Legion. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen and was employed by Allied Chemical for 30 years before retiring in 1984. A communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Jordan, he was a member of the Moose Lodge. George enjoyed singing, dancing, playing the lottery, bowling, and playing recreational hockey. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who loved his German chocolate cake.
George was predeceased by his wife, Cecile, in 2014; son-in-law, Robert Mulroy; great-grandaughter, Makenzie; and 11 siblings.
Surviving are his daughters, Lise (Tim) Mayo of Camillus and Nicole Mulroy of Tampa, FL; son, Michael (Renee) of Elbridge; grandchildren, Alicia, Brenda, Jessica (Brian), Robert (Candie), William, Megan (Richard), and Bridget (Rob); great-grandchildren, Ailyana, Sky, Lilly, Joary, Jazlyn, Braylon, Seth, Brielle, Juliana, Charlotte, Vincent, Axel and Robert; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, May 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 1 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Jordan.
George will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Mausoleum Sunset Atrium West in Syracuse.
