George E. Schanzle, 73, of Camillus, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. Born in Syracuse on Friday, April 3, 1936, he was the son of Arthur Schanzle and Hazel Lucas Schanzle. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and graduate of Marcellus High School. George was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Employed by Southern Container Corp. for more than 30 years, he retired in 1993. He was also formerly employed by McKesson & Robbins. A member of the Camillus Elks Lodge #2367, George was a former Elk of the Year. He was a handyman and enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening and spending time with his family. George was predeceased by his sister, Gloria Kennedy. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Patricia Legg; son, Rick Schanzle of Deerfield Beach, Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Edward Copley of Camillus; brother, Phillip Schanzle of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, April 19, 2009 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. An Elks service will be at 2:30 p.m. George will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
