George E. Hopkins, 93, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. Born in Middletown, he lived most of his life in the Syracuse area. He was an Army veteran of WW II and the Korean War. George graduated from Syracuse University and retired from Chemtech Industries in Solvay after over 20 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved the Adirondacks. George enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and was a member of the Canoe Club. He loved spending time with his family. He met every challenge with dignity and grace. George was predeceased by his first wife, Martha; second wife, Carla, in 2008; and brother, Gordon, in 2012. Surviving are his daughters, Louise (Michael) Rode, Mary Ann Hopkins and Carolyn (Rocky) Hopkins-Betz, all of CA, and Lenna (Rick) Dower of MA; sons, Lawrence (Lisa) of Camillus, and Terry and David (Mary), both of Syracuse; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and close friends Carol and Mike Kelly.
