George Chuposka, 82, of Syracuse, passed away Monday, October 18. Born in Gilberton, PA, he was a graduate of Gilberton High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany in the Advanced Infantry. He was a member of the Valley American Legion. An active communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, he was a member and past financial secretary of the Holy Name Society and member of Our Lady of Mercy Ministry. He was also very active among churches in the Syracuse area. He was a member of the Pastime Club.
George was predeceased by his parents, John and Nancy Chuposka; long-time companion, Shirley Bastone; sisters, Olga, Rita, Ruth and Mary; and brothers, Emil and Russell.
Surviving are his sisters, Patricia Ritsko of Frackville, PA and Theresa Travis of Vista, CA; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ann and Jean Chuposka, both of Gilberton, PA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, October 28 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Holy Name Society will recite the rosary at 9:45 a.m. Services will follow at 10:30 a.m. George will be laid to rest at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
