Gary L. Goodno, 70, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at home in Camillus. Born and raised in Rochester, he was the son of Ruth Herriman and Harry Goodno. He lived in Farmington and Victor until moving recently to Camillus. Gary was a graduate of Monroe High School, SUNY Brockport and NY University. An English and Film Studies professor at Finger Lakes Community College, he retired in 1995 after more than 30 years as a teacher. Gary was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Victor. His interests included hiking, biking, camping and the outdoors, photography, reading, and most of all spending time with his family. Gary was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy; and brothers, David and Douglas. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, the former Carol Marks; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Chip Whiting of Camillus and Jennifer and Eric Mandel of Minneapolis, Minnesota; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Naomi Goodno of Los Angeles, California; brother, Glenn Goodno of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, David, Rachael and Grant Whiting, Lillian and Vivienne Mandel; and several nieces and nephews. Gary’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Strong Memorial Hospital and Dr. Krenzer and staff at University Hospital for their compassionate and loving care. In accordance with Gary’s wishes, relatives and friends may call Saturday, August 21 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Colin Pritchard officiating. Gary will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
