Fremont “Gus” Lockwood, 86, of Camillus, passed away Friday, August 21, 2009at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Utica on Wednesday, November 15, 1922, he was the son of Fremont Lockwood and Ruth Dodge Lockwood. He lived in Syracuse most of his life. Gus was employed by Syracuse Glass Company and was a jazz musician, playing in various nightclubs in CNY. Later, he organized a group of volunteers to play at local hospitals and nursing homes. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Gus was a member of Recovery Inc., Syracuse Jazz Appreciation Society, Camillus Elks Club, Liverpool Concert Band and the Professional Musicians of CNY. A volunteer at Community General Hospital, he enjoyed photography and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Marijane Hill; sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Beverly Lockwood of Fairmount, Charles and June Lockwood of Marcellus and Richard and Jill Lockwood of Ballston Spa; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jim Judson of Daytona Beach, Florida; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Services will be private. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
