Frederick Luff Hartmann Sr., 87, of Onondaga Hill, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at home. Born in Syracuse on Sunday, September 19, 1920, he was the son of Leroy William Hartmann and Hazel Luff Hartmann. He lived in Springfield, Ohio, Richmond, Indiana and Troy, Ohio before moving back to Syracuse in 1983. Fred was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was employed with Hobart Corp. in Troy, Ohio for 10 years and also with AVCO Corp. in Richmond, Indiana and Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. Fred was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and former treasurer of the Syracuse University Engineering Alumni Association. He volunteered for more than 17 years at Community-General Hospital. An avid golfer and swimmer, he also enjoyed flying and had his private pilot license. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Fred was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Leroy Hartmann. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, the former Reinaldah Nell Smith; son, Frederick L. (Sally) of Hinsdale, Illinois; and grandchildren, Beth Ann of Chicago, Illinois and David Frederick of Berkeley, California; son, Terry (Eileen) of Rochester; and grandchildren, Mairead, Liam and Seamus of Rochester; daughter, Judith H. (Bill) Conine of Coxsackie; and grandson, Zachary B. Conine of Las Vegas, Nevada. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church. Friends may call Friday, November 30, 2007 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse.
