Frederick C. “Ted” Raby, 70, of Baldwinsville, passed away Saturday, January 27 at the VA Medical Center. Born and raised in Oswego, Ted was a member of the US Navy, serving in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970. After his tour of duty, he took great pride in participating in the family business, Raby's Ace Home Center in Oswego, where he worked until 1987. After that, he contentedly estimated projects for Ryan's Windows & Doors in Syracuse, until his retirement, in 2016.
Ted had a gift of gab, a quick wit and a sense of humor that delighted many. He was an exercise enthusiast and sportsman who particularly enjoyed playing tennis in Radisson during the summer and at Gold's Gym during the winter. He was an avid SU fan and a diehard Yankees follower. At every possible opportunity, he could be found puttering around his property overlooking Lake Ontario at Mexico Point or looking to fix something at his home in Baldwinsville.
Ted was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Helen Raby of Oswego; and sister, Roberta Bond of New Haven.
Surviving are his wife, Dorinda; son, Christopher (Katie) Raby; beloved grandson, Owen Patrick Raby; sisters, Judy Conley and Tecia Raby, both of Oswego; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Thank you, Nurse Patty, on 5A at the VA, for keeping Ted comfortable during his final hours and days.
There will be no calling hours.
Mass Intentions will take place at St. Mary's Church, 103 West 7th St., Oswego, on Sunday, February 18, at 10 a.m.
If you wish, please consider a gift in Ted's memory to our Northwest Family YMCA, 8040 River Rd., Baldwinsville, NY 13027 (http://www.syracuse.ymca.org/northwest-family-.html) or to a charity of your choice.
