Francis J. “Fran” Scanlon, 80, of Camillus, passed away Thursday at Crouse Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy. Fran was an Air Force veteran. He was employed with P&C Foods for 39 years and was a bus driver with the West Genesee School District. Fran was a communicant of Holy Family Church and enjoyed golfing and camping. He was a very supportive grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
Fran was predeceased by his daughters, Theresa Scanlon in 2001 and Maureen Davis in 2013.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Sheila; son, Edward (Karen) Scanlon of California; daughters, Karen (Keith) Burchell of Camillus, Barbara Saunders of Elbridge, Patricia (Meridith) Jones Scanlon of Spencer and Kathleen (Andrew) VanWie of Milford, PA; son-in-law, Aaron Davis; sister, Judy VanOstrand; brothers, Michael, Ronald and Carl; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, December 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 10 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Fran will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
