Flora Nappa Whipple, 81, of Camillus, died Friday, May 20, 2011 at St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Syracuse on New Year’s Day 1930, she was the daughter of Carmen Nappa and Anna LaTorre. After spending her early years in the Syracuse area, she lived in LaFayette from 1973 until returning to the Syracuse area in the mid-1980s. She also enjoyed winters in New Port Richey, Florida, with her husband, Andy. Flora was a graduate of Central High School, volunteer lunch aide at Van Duyn Elementary School, and communicant of St. Joseph's Church in LaFayette. An avid cook and baker, she baked pies with her husband, Andy, for St. Joseph's Church in LaFayette for the Annual Apple Festival for many years. Other interests included reading, golf, bowling, travel, camping and fishing. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Andrew Whipple Sr.; daughters and son-in-law, Karen Stafford of LaFayette and Catherine and Ken Bobis of Syracuse; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Diane Whipple of Deland, Florida and Andrew and April Whipple Jr. of Cicero; brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Anne Nappa of Camillus; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, May 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Graveside services will be at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 25 at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt, with Rev. James Carey officiating.
