Evelyn Margaretha (Wilkens) Ackerman

Evelyn Margaretha (Wilkens) Ackerman, passed away at the age of 89 surrounded by her family on December 8, 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC due to complications after surgery. She was born on September 27, 1930 in Brooklyn. She lived in NYC before residing in Syracuse for 25 years and then settled in North Carolina for 40 years. Evelyn worked for bakeries in NYC and Seven-Up Bottling in Syracuse, but her most important job was that of a loving wife and mother. If she wasn’t knitting or crocheting, playing cards, chatting with family, going to lunch with her husband or writing thoughts in her journals, she was looking at pictures of her beloved family sent almost daily to her tablet.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, John and Luise Wilkens; and brothers, John and Nordfrid Wilkens.

Surviving are her devoted husband of 67 loving years, Raymond J. Ackerman; sister, Sieglinde Kohn; daughters, Laura (Pete) Cost, Lisa (Dan Kelly) Siskowski and Kristina Roe; grandchildren, Colleen, Alex, Scott, Michael, Eva, Sam, Christopher, Ashley and Tyler; and seven great-grandchildren.

A small gathering took place in North Carolina. There will be no further services.
