Evelyn Ann Helmstetter passed away peacefully at her home in Carrboro, NC on April 27 after a short illness. She was 92 years old. Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late George “Bud” Helmstetter whom she married on September 29, 1951. Evelyn was born in Syracuse and was the daughter of Mary (Washco) and Joseph Rolince. She was the third youngest of twelve children, all of whom predeceased her. Evelyn was a graduate of Vocational High School. She worked as a practical nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in the orphanage as well as General Electric. Evelyn was an avid reader and volunteered at the Minoa Library for many years. She was a wonderful cook, gardener and good friend. Evelyn was never happier than when spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be especially remembered for her wonderful capacity to listen and be present in the moment.
Evelyn is survived by a son, Chris Helmstetter (Frances) of Carrboro, NC; daughter, Judith Schneider (Mark) of Carrboro, NC; five grandchildren, Christopher Helmstetter of Chapel Hill, NC, George Helmstetter (Nicole) of Miami FL, Zachary Delconte of Charleston SC, Jeffrey Schneider (Nina Boutsikaris) of Hudson, NY and Monica Schneider of Burlington, VT; three great grandchildren, Elgia and Lula, both of Chapel Hill, NC and Georgie of Miami, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be private at Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
