Eugene "Gene" Cappello

Eugene “Gene” Cappello, 80, of Camillus, died on Thanksgiving Day. He was born in Watertown to Peter and Angela Cappello on September 23, 1941. He graduated from North Syracuse High School with high honors at 16 years of age. He then received his Bachelor’s Degree (cum laude) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from Syracuse University, at the age of 20. He soon met his wife to be, Andrea Polastis, and on September 25, 1965 they were married. Gene enjoyed taking cruises with his wife and playing tennis, golf and walking. An avid sports fan, especially SU, he also enjoyed vegetable gardening. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife.

The family extends a special thank you to Crouse Hospital for their loving care and compassion.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Andrea; sister, Maria Owens of N. Syracuse; sister-in-law, Rose Ann (Jerry) Napierski of Camillus; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all.
