Emblem

Eugene L. Marcy, 91, of Westvale, passed away peacefully on Saturday at home, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, he graduated from Central Tech High School before earning his bachelor’s degree from Niagara University, where he excelled as a standout basketball player at both institutions. A U.S. Army veteran, he was employed for 31 years as an engineer with General Electric.

Gene had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He found joy through genealogy, gardening, and for many years, playing bridge with friends. In retirement, Gene and his wife, Marilyn, shared many joyful hours playing croquet at West Hill Golf Course, where they occasionally claimed the championship. But above all, his greatest happiness came from time spent with his beloved family, especially the Sunday night dinners.

Gene was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; and brothers, Alfred and Jim.

Surviving are his sons, Darrell (Christina Essig) and Duane (Patti), both of Syracuse, and Douglas of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Phelan, Max, and Katie; brother, Larry of Lynchburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Gene’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Pilar Severs for her loving care, compassion, and especially for keeping Gene in line.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to share stories, laughter, and love in his honor.

Gene will be laid to rest in White Chapel Memory Gardens Cemetery, DeWitt.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fairmount Community Library, 406 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219.
