Esther G. Underwood, 89, of Elbridge, went home to be in the arms of Jesus on Sunday at home. Born in Syracuse, she grew up near Split Rock on Onondaga Hill. She lived in Camillus for 40 years before moving to Elbridge in 1988. Esther was employed for 30 years by Penn Traffic Co. as an accountant before retiring. She also worked for her family’s gold mining business in Alaska. A devoted Christian and firm believer, Esther was a member of the Third Day Worship Centre. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, and writing poetry. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Esther is predeceased by her husband of 36 years, David H.; sons, Clint David and Clint David II; and sister, Laverna Heath.
Surviving are her children, Roreyna (Clarence) Smith, Les Underwood, Michelle Underwood, David J. (Tina) Underwood, and Cynthia (Randy) Underwood-Wager; sisters, Phyllis Sherwood and Joyce Sherwood; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, August 19 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Esther will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
