Ernest "Erny" Victor Pachilis, 84, of Camillus, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017 at The Centers at St. Camillus, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 17, 1933 in Middleport, PA, he was the son of Victor and Mary Pachilis. He lived in Camillus since 1963.
Erny was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a 1953 graduate of Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, PA where he earned a degree in electronics and a 1959 graduate of Penn State University where he earned his BSEE. Erny was employed as a systems engineer for General Electric Aerospace Division for 33 years. He traveled extensively in that capacity all over the world installing radars, including programs in the Marshall Islands, Kwajalein and Saudi Arabia during the Desert Storm, among others.
A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Erny was also an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening. His favorite pastime was fishing with his son, Eric, and friends. He was a member of the Elks Lodge Post #2367 in Camillus, as well as the American Legion Post #188 in Liverpool.
Erny was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Margaret "Peggy" Mills, who he looked forward to visiting every winter in Kailua, Hawaii.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, the former Loretta "Laurie" Brennan; daughter, Lauren (Fred) Janack of Liverpool; son, Eric (Pennie) of Liverpool; and grandchildren, Rachel and Danielle Pachilis, Julia Villali and Stephen Janack.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, May 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 4 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Erny will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
