Emil Eddy Filippi, 94, of Fairmount, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at home after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn on Monday, March 16, 1914, he was the son of Leonard Filippi and Vita Pietrafesa Filippi and was the youngest of nine children. Eddy moved to Syracuse in 1932 to work with his uncle, the founder of Learbury Clothing. It was there he met his wife, Adelaide. He worked for Learbury's as a clothing cutter for 35 years retiring in 1965. Helping his friends and family brought him the most joy. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Eddy's daughter-in-law, Alice Filippi, died in June 2008. Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, the former Adelaide Capparelli; sons and daughter-in-law, Edward and Richard (Maria) of Syracuse; grandchildren, Dawn (Craig) Kerchner of Dacula, Georgia, Michael (Renee) Filippi of Lakeland, Kelly (Andy) DeStefano of Lakeland, and Christina and Julianna Filippi of Syracuse; great-grandsons, Nick, Tom and Cullen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
