Emil A. Laufer

July 4, 1925 — November 9, 2013

Emil A. “Emo” Laufer, 88, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday at home. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, he retired in 1993 after 40 years with Crucible Steel. He was a Navy veteran of WW II, having served on the USS Healy. A life member of Baldwinsville VFW Post 153, he was also a member of Mattydale American Post 1832. Emil was predeceased by his wife, the former Genevieve Ploski, in 1993. Surviving are his companion, Sharon Deitz of Syracuse; sons, Richard (Nancy) Laufer of Howlett Hill and Robert (Margaret) Laufer of Syracuse; sister, Anne Petrocci of Solvay; brother, Rudy Laufer of Syracuse; grandchildren, Melissa Sainsbury, Lori Kunai, and Robert, Karen, Stephanie, Jason and Jacob Laufer; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to April for her great care. Graveside services for Emil will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 15 in the chapel of the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Assn. of CNY, Inc., 4915½ W. Taft Rd., Liverpool, NY 13088.
