Elizabeth Jean Barrett

Elizabeth Jean Barrett, 83, of Marcellus, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at The Centers at St. Camillus. Born in Massena on Saturday, October 19, 1929, she graduated from Massena High School in 1947. Elizabeth lived in Marcellus for more than 50 years. She retired from the Kemper Ins. Co. A communicant of Holy Family Church, she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and also the Syracuse Coin Club. She loved raising her children and also enjoyed knitting, traveling and reading. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Austin and Hazel Shumway; brother, Bill Shumway; son, John G. Barrett II in 2006; and daughter, Linda Ann Barrett in 2011. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, John G. Barrett; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph L. and Katie Barrett, and James P. and Else Barrett, all of Marcellus, Daniel P. Barrett of Cartersville, Georgia, and Thomas A. Barrett of Missoula, Montana; daughter-in-law, Maxine Barrett of Battle Creek, Michigan; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, October 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Monday, October 29 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Elizabeth will be laid to rest at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219.
