Elizabeth J. Leal, 90, of Camillus, passed away Saturday November 22, 2014 at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre. Born and raised in Newark, NY, she lived in Schenectady for 15 years before moving to Camillus in 1962. Elizabeth was a 1941 graduate of Oswego High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from SUNY Oswego. An elementary school teacher for 25 years, she taught in Palmyra and Schenectady, and retired from the West Genesee Central School District in 1983 after having taught at the Warners School for 21 years. She was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers' Assn. and Camillus-Geddes BPW. She was also a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and an avid card player. Elizabeth was predeceased by her brother, John Grieve; son, Ernest J. Leal Jr.; granddaughters, Cara A. Bryant and Ryann B. Leal; and great-granddaughter, Alana K. Bryant. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Ernest J. Leal Sr.; daughters, Mary E. (Huyland M.) Bryant of Marcellus and Deborah A. ("Zeke" Ronnow) Leal of Syracuse; daughter-in-law, Catherine (Boddy) Leal of Henrietta; grandchildren, Huyland E. Bryant, Jennifer B. (David) Woodburn, Ernest J. Leal III and Joseph L. Ronnow; great-grandchildren, Kayla M. Bryant, Abriana Leal, Huyland L. Bryant and Isaac Woodburn; sister, Ellen Ridgway of Richland; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, November 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 in St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery, Wellesley Island. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
