Elizabeth B. Zalewski, 94, of Laurel Springs, NJ, formerly of Warners, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18 in her son’s home. Elizabeth was employed with the Onondaga County Department of Social Services for 16 years before retiring in 1990. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace in Lakeland. Elizabeth was the matriarch of her family. She enjoyed spending time with family, her best friend, Shirley and her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her grand-furbabies, gardening and flowers. She was an avid Scrabble player and baker of the famous chocolate chip cookies.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Frank Zalewski; parents, Gregory and Sophie Ivanchak; brother, Rudolph Ivanchak; and daughter-in-law, Holly Hutchings.
Surviving are her daughter, Nancy (Steve) Cohen of Palmyra, VA; sons, Dr. John Zalewski of St. Louis, MO, Robert (Michelle) Zalewski of Laurel Springs, NJ and Frank (Susan) Zalewski of Clayton, NC; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, January 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will be Saturday, January 4 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Elizabeth will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
