Elinor W. Wetherell, 84, of Skaneateles, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at The Nottingham. Known as Penny, she grew up in Maplewood, NJ, lived in Potsdam, NY, and moved to Skaneateles in 1970. Penny was a 5th grade teacher at the State Street School in Skaneateles for over 20 years.
Penny loved dancing and kids. She taught ballet while in Potsdam and choreographed school musicals in Skaneateles and Elbridge in her spare time, including “Me and My Shadow” performed by Penny with her grandson, Neil. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, playing golf, spending time with her family and was an avid NBA fan. She was the family champion at Scrabble.
Penny was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2016; brother-in-law, Jim Carr; niece, Kathy; and nephew, Jim.
Surviving are her sons, John Covell of Burlington, VT and Andy (Karen) Covell of Syracuse; stepdaughters, Mari Taylor of East Syracuse, Gail (Nick) McClain of Rochester and Kay Powell of Liverpool; sister, Robin Carr; niece, Barbara; nephew, Scott of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Kim McClain (Juan Hernandez), Tyler McClain, Neil (Cui) Powell, Jill (Mike) Krick, Robert and Michael Taylor, Jonathon Covell, Wendell (Theresa) Covell, Julia (Nathan) Conz, Adrien (Francis O’Buckley) Monti, Ashley Dilzod and Adam (Lisa) Clark; and great-grandchildren, Miyna and Conlin Powell, Gavynn Krick, Drew and Reid Covell and Caroline and Lorelei Conz.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, April 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Elinor will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery, Skaneateles.
