Eleanor “Ellie” B. Hunt, 91, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, June 22. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 3, 1930 to Esther V. and Lloyd M. Barnett.
Ellie was a wonderful mom to her four children, who always knew they were loved and supported and appreciated all that she taught them about values and responsibility. She was also a loyal friend.
Throughout her career as an administrative assistant, Ellie worked at the Syracuse Housing Authority, West Genesee and Camillus Middle Schools, First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, Exceptional Family Resources, and the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Upstate Medical University.
Ellie was predeceased by her parents; two sisters; two brothers; and her former husband, Richard Hunt.
Surviving are her children, Vicki (Patrick) O’Neill and Diane (Keith) Butler, both of Syracuse, Joyce (Sean) Flynn of Marcellus, and Paul (Barbara) Hunt of Baldwinsville; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and long-time friend, Susan Turverey of Syracuse.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, July 9 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A private memorial service will follow.
Ellie’s family is grateful to Jane Stevens and Cara Harrington for the care they gave her over the last several years. In addition, a special thank you to Hospice of Central New York and Hospice of the Finger Lakes for the care and comfort they gave Ellie during her final days.
