Eleanor Clancy McCarthy, 80, of Camillus was called home to Heaven on Sunday, December 27, 2009. Born in Split Rock on Tuesday, October 8, 1929, she was the daughter of Lawrence M. Clancy and Helen M. Mahar Clancy. She lived in Buffalo from 1967 until returning to Syracuse in 1983. Eleanor was a graduate of Cathedral High School. She was employed by New York Telephone Co., John L. Clancy Jr. Insurance Agency and St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center, retiring in 1994. Eleanor was a communicant of Holy Family Church. She enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Eleanor was predeceased by her brothers, Richard, Bill and Frank Clancy; and sisters, Mary, Betty and Helen Clancy, Grace Gogates and Kate Brown. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 56 years, William “Bid” McCarthy of Camillus; and a loving and dedicated mother to her daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Paul Morrell of Camillus, Katie and Joe Assaf of Camillus and Nora and Bud O'Malley of Lakeland; and sons and daughter-in-law,, William McCarthy of Camillus and Patrick and Michelle McCarthy of Orchard Park. She was lovingly known as “Gia” by her 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne Clancy of Fairmount, Margaret and Raymond Garzia of Onondaga Hill, Patricia and Angelo DeMark of Merritt Island, Florida and Becky and Luther Everson of Liverpool; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jean Clancy of Onondaga Hill; brother-in-law, Dan Brown of Skaneateles and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 in Holy Family Church. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Eleanor will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Guardian Angel Society, c/o Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 259 E. Onondaga St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
