Edward “Ted” H. Warne of Manlius, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the age of 91. Ted was born on November 7, 1926 to Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Warne of Syracuse, he was the devoted husband of Patricia (Farrido) Warne, who predeceased Ted on December 20, 2016.
Ted was a 1944 graduate of Eastwood High School. While in his senior year, he enlisted in the Air Corps Enlisted Reserve. In 1945 while attending Niagara University, Ted was assigned to active duty with the 3705th AAF Base Unit out of Syracuse. He was honorably discharged from service later that year on his nineteenth birthday.
On March 1, 1949, Ted married Patricia Farrido of Syracuse. Shortly thereafter, Ted returned to active duty and was assigned to the 7th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 49th Fighter Bomber Group of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Ted distinguished himself as “Jet Fighter Pilot” during his service in Korea, earning two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism in 1951. Ted was also a member of the heralded Screamin' Demons of the 49th Fighter Group.
After his service in Korea, Ted continued to serve his country in the Air Force Reserves rising to the rank of captain before being honorably discharged in 1961. In 1953, while serving in the reserves, Ted began his career as a commercial pilot, flying with American Airlines. His career at American Airlines spanned 33 years until his retirement in 1986. During his career with American Airlines, Ted and Pat resided in Buffalo, Huntington, and Rancho Bernardo, California. Ted and Pat enjoyed numerous trips abroad and collected many interesting artifacts during those trips. They finally found their way back to the Syracuse area, settling in Manlius, in 1989.
Ted was an avid golf enthusiast, but above all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Ted is survived by his sister-in-law, Kathleen (John) Agen; and several nieces and nephews.
Ted was predeceased by his father, Douglas Warne; mother, Pauline Warne; and loving wife of 69 years, Patricia (Farrido) Warne.
There will be no calling hours.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 24 at 10 a.m. in St. Charles~St. Ann's Parish, 4461 Onondaga Blvd., Syracuse. Ted will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
