Edward “Ed” G. Scouten, 94, of Fairmount, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021 in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by family. Ed lived in Fairmount his entire life. After marrying Irene, they purchased a new home in a new subdivision in Fairmount, where Ed lived until his death.
Ed retired in 1990 from Syracuse Stamping Co. After his retirement, he devoted his time to the three things he enjoyed most: volunteering for over 30 years mowing the lawn on his tractor at Holy Family Church, making popcorn for many non-profit organizations and spending time at Vince’s Garage. Ed was known to everyone as the “popcorn man” and will be missed by many, as he was kind and generous to everyone he met.
Ed was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, the former Irene Zadroga.
Surviving are his children, Jerry (Sue), Dick (Laura) and Linda (Ron) Burns; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Coe; brothers, Raymond and Harry; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Stapleton and Marilyn Matyasik.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, February 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in the church. If you are unable to attend, you can view the live streamed funeral Mass by visiting Holy Family Church’s website and click on his service. Ed will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
