Edward "Ed" G. Chamberland, 87, of Fairmount, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Willimantic, CT, he lived in the Syracuse area for most of his life. After graduating from St. Lucy’s High School in 1949, Edward served in the Naval Reserves for eight years.
Ed met the love of his life, Mary “Betty” Trapp and they were married on September 5, 1953. He retired in 1990 after a long career with Fred's Express, Dick’s Auto Express and Fluorescent Lighting. He was an active member of the Teamsters Local 317. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church for over 60 years. Ed enjoyed golfing, reading, spending time with his grandchildren, and having coffee on Saturdays with his close friends, Nazear and Tim.
Edward was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Rose Chamberland; and granddaughter, Megan Gillespie.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Betty; son, David (Sue) Chamberland of Mt. Prospect, IL; daughters, Michele (Carl) Gildemeyer of Baldwinsville, Jean (Brian) Gillespie of Auburn, and Mary Beth (Todd) Fletcher of Fishkill; grandchildren, Heather Chamberland, Lauren (Kevin LaVine) Gildemeyer, Brian and Kathleen Gildemeyer, Emily and Robert Gillespie; and step granddaughter, Emily Koban.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Chris Zimmerman for the care and friendship given to Ed over the past several years. The family would also like to thank Hospice for their care of Edward over the last two months.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, September 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 21 at 12:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church. Edward will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
