Edward D. Flavin Jr., 95, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully, with family by his side, Sunday at Francis House. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of Nottingham High School and St. Bonaventure University. A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, Edward was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. He was a devout Catholic who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Edward was predeceased by his wife, Harriett; daughter, Melissa Spencer; parents, Gertrude and Edward Sr.; and sister, Mary McMahon.
Surviving are his children, Diana (Jeffery) Skinner of Fabius, Andrea (Sean) Mulvany of League City, TX, Matthew of Syracuse, Valerie (Steven) Rotella of Warners, and Amelia (Anthony) Smith of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m. in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse.
Edward will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland.
