Earl F. Smarzo, 87, of Marcellus, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010 at home. Born in Newark, New Jersey on Friday, October 6, 1922, he was the son of Frederick William Smarzo and Florence Kinne Smarzo. He lived in the Syracuse-Marcellus area since 1939. Earl was a 1940 graduate of Syracuse Central High School and 1949 graduate of SU School of Applied Science. Employed by Syracuse General Sales, he retired in 1988 after 40 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran in World War II and flew B-25s and P-38s. A member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, he was also a former member of the Rotary Club of Syracuse and member of the Engineers' Honor Society. He enjoyed traveling and camping. The joys of his life were his wife and family. Earl was predeceased by his sister, Winifred M. Coffman. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Patricia Knodel; daughter, Patricia Ann Smarzo of Marcellus; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy E. and Llani Smarzo of Syracuse; grandchildren, Joshua E. Smarzo of Marcellus, Leila (Kevin) Dean of Eastwood, Kasmira N. Smarzo and Kristia (Nate) Valletta of Pompey; great-grandson, Collin A. Dean of Eastwood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be at noon Friday, March 26 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Georgina Hegney officiating. Relatives and friends may call preceding the service from 11 a.m. to noon. Private burial will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W.
