Duane K. Wadsworth Sr.

Duane K. Wadsworth Sr., 86, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully after a long illness, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend.

Duane grew up on Onondaga Hill where he worked on his family's farm. At a young age, he understood the value of hard work and earning an honest living.

Duane attended Onondaga Central School where he was known for his athleticism and love for basketball. Following high school, he worked for Otis Elevator for 36 years. After retiring in 1997, Duane could be found working in the yard or riding his mower. He took great pride in his landscaping and lawn care.

Duane enjoyed spending time with family and friends, often sharing stories from his past. He loved traveling to new destinations with his wife and taking leisurely drives around the local counties with friends, engaging in conversations about local history. Known for his kindness, Duane was instantly liked by everyone he met. An avid SU fan, he rarely missed a game, but he especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and hearing about their academic achievements. One of his favorite weekly traditions was his Wednesday coffee gatherings with the 'elevator guys’. 

Duane was predeceased by his parents, John and Gladys; three brothers; and one sister.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Diane; daughter, Jen (Nate) Spieker, sons, Tim (Jessica) and Butch (Margaret); grandchildren, Brady Wadsworth and Aiden Spieker; sisters, Ann (Lloyd) Amidon and Sally Tartaglia; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

To celebrate Duane’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home.

Duane will be laid to rest in South Onondaga Cemetery, Nedrow.
