Dr. James A. Cavallaro, 63, of Fairmount, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in the presence of his devoted and loving family. Jim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Laurie; daughters, Katie (Peter) Cavallaro-Park of Santa Monica, CA and Stephanie Cavallaro and her fiancé, John Lacey, both of Syracuse; mother, Theresa Cavallaro of Westvale; sisters, Regina (James) Kelley of Pittsfield, MA, Linda Pizzuto of Syracuse, and Donna (Nicholas) Bishop of Adrian, MI; brother, Anthony (Sandra) Cavallaro, Jr. of Brunswick, OH; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was predeceased by his father, Anthony Cavallaro, Sr. Jim grew up in the Westvale area graduating from Bishop Ludden High School, Le Moyne College with a B.S. in Biology, and Georgetown University School of Dentistry. Since 1979, he proudly served his community by providing compassionate dental care to his patients at his practice, Camillus Dental Associates. Jim was passionate about his profession and placed great importance in treating his patients as family. He also served as an adjunct professor for the Onondaga County Community College Dental Hygiene Program. He was a member of many professional organizations including the ADA, Fifth District Dental Society, Onondaga County Dental Society and the Pierre Fouchard Academy. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed flying radio controlled model airplanes, science fiction of all types, following the Yankees and SU basketball, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a beloved father, husband, and friend who enjoyed life to the fullest while bringing humor, inspiration, and wisdom to those who knew him. Throughout his adult life Jim faced many overwhelming medical challenges. He was admired by all for his courage, strength, and determination in overcoming those challenges, ultimately accepting peace in the hands of God. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, October 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Thursday, October 15 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. in St. Charles~St. Ann's Parish, 501 South Orchard Rd., where a funeral Mass will be celebrated.
