Dorothy Champlain Aitchison, 90, of Syracuse passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre. Born in Syracuse on Monday, January 16, 1922, she was the daughter of Paul E. Champlain and Lora Elizabeth (Kasson) Champlain. A lifetime resident of the Howlett Hill area, she was secretary for the Marcellus Central School District for more than 50 years, retiring in 1994. Dorothy was a life member of the Howlett Hill Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, birds, knitting, crocheting and reading. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Carl; brothers, Kasson and Hoyt Champlain; and niece, Sally Champlain. Surviving are her nephews, Robert Champlain of Camillus and Howard (Cheryl) Champlain of Endwell; niece, Margaret Champlain of Camillus; great-nieces, Julia (Michael) Gauzza, Mary (Tom) Humphrey, Lora Champlain, Catherine (Steve) Emery, Melinda (Andy) Ferber and Pamela Champlain; cousin, Mickey (Adele) Kasson; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Relatives and friends may call Monday, January 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Robert Emery officiating.
