Dorothy Leona Champlain, 101, formerly of Howlett Hill, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 in Leesburg, Florida. Born in Syracuse on Thursday, August 29, 1907, she was the daughter of George John Hammerle and Alice B. Durston Hammerle. She lived in Syracuse until moving to Florida in the mid ‘70s. Dorothy was a former switchboard operator. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Leesburg. Her husband of 75 years, Hoyt LeRoy Champlain, died April 26, 2009. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Services will be at noon Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus with Rev. Gary Ferner officiating. Relatives and friends may call preceding the service from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
