Dorothy K. Simmons, 89, of Fairmount, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015 at Crouse Hospital. Born and raised in Syracuse, she lived in Fairmount since 1956 and was a graduate of Central High School in 1942 and CCBI. Dorothy, along with her husband John, were owners of the Fairmount Bowling Center for 34 years and Simmons Construction, which built many homes in the Fairmount area. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a former member of the Syracuse Liederkranz. Dorothy was an avid cook and was well-known in the community for her homemade soups and recipes. She loved animals and time spent with family pets were always special. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John in 2004. Surviving are her sons, John (Deborah) of Camillus and David (Angela) of Fairmount; grandchildren, Christopher, Craig, Greg and Cody Simmons, Corey and Lauren Martino; and three nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, August 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 8, at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Dorothy will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
