Dorothy Johnston Welles

Dorothy Johnston Welles, 83, of Lakeland, Florida and formerly of Camillus, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at her son's home in Lakeland, Florida. Born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 8, 1924, she was the daughter of Datus Johnston and Hazel Bell Johnston. She was raised in Clearfield and lived in Gouverneur until moving to the Syracuse-Camillus area more than 50 years ago. Dorothy graduated from Gouverneur High School and Eastman School of Dental Hygiene. She worked as a dental hygienist for ten years with Dr. Howeth Pabst in Syracuse. She was a member of Fairmount Community Church and its Women's Circle and the Skyscrapers Bowling League. Dorothy is predeceased by her brothers, Richard and Bill Johnston. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Robert; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Darlene Welles of Lakeland, Florida, Ron and Cheryl Welles of Onondaga Hill and Bruce and Deborah Welles of Camillus; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Patrick Celi of Syracuse; brother, Dean Johnston; sister and brother-in-law, Leah and Lee Short; sisters-in-law, Helen and Dawn Johnston; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2007 at Fairmount Community Church with Rev. Gary Ferner officiating. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Warners and conclude with a remembrance reception for family and friends at the church. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Good Shepard Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823 or to Fairmount Community Church, 4801 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13219.
