Dorothy Jane Dennis

Dorothy J. Dennis, 79, of Syracuse, and a beloved sister, aunt and great aunt, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Community General Hospital. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, she was born on Tuesday, May 6, 1930. Dorothy was employed by King Storage & Storage for approximately 20 years. She was a communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church. She loved knitting hats and mittens for the Oxford Inn, Unity Acres and many churches. She knitted hundreds of slippers every year for the veterans at VA Medical Center. Many babies are wearing her baby sweaters which she made with love for over 40 years. She will be missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to have known her. Heaven has just received their newest angel. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, William H. and Jane Dixon Dennis; brothers, William H., Charles D. and Jeremiah E. Dennis; sister, Barbara Dennis; brother-in-law, Morgan J. O'Donnell Jr.; nieces, Patricia (Dennis) Buerman and Karen (O'Donnell) McConnell; and great-niece, Jessica L. Somers. Surviving are her sisters and brother-in-law, Irene D. O'Donnell and Suzanne D. and Eugene Nichols; brother and sister-in-law, Richard L. and Marlene Dennis; sisters-in-law, Cel and Margaret Dennis; 13 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and great-nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 13 at Most Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cortland. Arrangements are by Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to Oxford Street Inn, 201 Oxford St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
