Dorothy (Flagg) Webster, 97, of Camillus, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021, surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of her son, George and daughter-in-law, Diane’s home.
Dorothy was born on March 16, 1923 in Yonkers to Paluel and Dorothy Flagg into a family of 11 brothers and sisters. On June 15, 1946, she married George Webster. Together they raised 12 children; Randy, Dotty, Billy, Jane, Peter, Paul, Jodi, George, Noel, Andy, Ginny and Connie.
Dorothy was an exceptional person who lived life to the fullest. She was not one to sit back and let the world happen around her. She welcomed every opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She made every moment special. For years, Dorothy played Bridge with friends in Syracuse, Vinalhaven, Maine and Florida. She spent countless hours collecting “treasures” at house sales and selling them at the flea market in Vinalhaven. One of Dorothy’s greatest gifts was meeting people. She had a special knack for talking to anyone who caught her attention. She loved music, playing double solitaire, putting together a puzzle and taking walks. When you left Dorothy, you left with a story and a moment to remember.
Dorothy was a lifelong NY Giants fan. As a kid, she would take the train from Yonkers to lower Manhattan to watch her team play at the Polo Grounds. Her allegiance never strayed. Every Sunday Dorothy watched her team while frantically ironing clothes to help with the stress. In good years and bad, she always stayed true to Big Blue.
Dorothy loved the Catholic church. Her faith guided her up to the end of her life. We take comfort in knowing she will spend eternity with the God she loves and family and friends who went before her. We all know she is in good hands.
Dorothy was preceded by her husband, George; and daughter, Jane Evans.
Surviving are her 11 of 12 children and their spouses; 38 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, Noel Flagg; sister, Maryanne Gasner; and too many nieces and nephews to count.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 1 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Dorothy’s name to the Vinalhaven Maine Public Library, 6 Carver St, Vinalhaven, ME 04863 or to Islands Community Medical Services, 15 Medical Center Loop, Vinalhaven, ME 04863 or to a favorite charity of one’s choice.
