Doris M. Pitcher

February 17, 1920 — October 21, 2016

Doris M. Pitcher, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Chase Mills on Friday, October 21, 2016. She was showered with love and surrounded by her family during the final days and hours of her life.

Doris was born on February 17, 1920 in Syracuse, a daughter of the late Carl and Lulu Faustman. On November 4, 1939 she married Samuel C. Pitcher Sr. at The Methodist Church in Liverpool. They raised five children on their farm in Warners along with owning and operating a successful business. She enjoyed over 50 years of marriage with Sam.

Sam and Doris traveled south every winter for over 30 years to their home in Homosassa, FL to escape the New York winters. They eventually retired "up to camp" at their home on the Grasse River in Chase Mills.

She was a member of the VFW Post 153 and Loyal Order to Moose Lodge 644, both of Baldwinsville. She was a faithful member of The Methodist Church in Warners and the First Christian Church of Chassahowitzka in Chassahowitzka, FL.

Doris enjoyed canning, gardening, cooking "feasts" at her home every Sunday, creating craft projects, spending time with the "little ones" in the family, and later in life, playing cards every day.

Doris is predeceased in death by her husband, Samuel C. Pitcher Sr.; sisters, Louise Donoghue, Marion Dixie and Helen Darling; brother, Walter Hughes; granddaughter, Sandy; great-grandson, Daniel; and great-great-grandson, Joseph.

Surviving are her children, Barbara (Dave) Calkins of Baldwinsville, Eleanor Noreau of Chase Mills, Dorothy Allen of Warners, Samuel C. Pitcher Jr. of Warners and Beatrice Watkins of Chase Mills; sister-in-law, Ruth (Bill) Lee of Baldwinsville; several nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren with her 13th expected to arrive in March 2017.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, October 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 26 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David James officiating. A graveside service will follow in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Doris' name may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US-11, Potsdam, NY 13676.

The family wishes to thank all of the special Hospice caregivers for their compassionate care given to their mother.
