Donald "Smitty" Smith, 81, of Camillus, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at home. Born in Columbia, SC, he was raised at the Carolina Children's Home and moved to Camillus in 1955. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Smitty retired in 1988 after 32 years with the US Postal Service in Camillus and also worked in mail services at Le Moyne College. Faith was very important to him and was a member of the Community Tabernacle Church. He was actively involved, for many years, with Camillus Optimist baseball and for a few years, ushered at the P&C Stadium. Smitty loved spending time with his family and enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Elbridge Gun Club and an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds. Surviving are his wife, Lillian "Suzy"; son, Eric (Jennifer) of Manlius; daughters, Tammy (Bill) Jones of Camillus and Maxine (Bob) Hayle of Raleigh, NC; sister, Carol Heinz of Minnesota; and grandchildren, Austin, Dustin, Nathan, Jared, Natalie, Colette and Mary. Relatives and friends may call Monday, November 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Graveside services will be Tuesday, November 4 at 9 a.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
