Donald J. Rhinehart, 93, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2020 at The Hearth at Greenpoint. Born in Zanesville, OH, he lived in the Syracuse area for many years. Donald was a graduate of St. Thomas High School in Zanesville and served in the Army during WWII. He received his bachelor's degree from Le Moyne College and was a defense contract administrator with General Electric Co. for over 30 years. Guided by his strong faith throughout his life, he was very active with several church communities. An avid reader, Donald had an interest in history and politics. He also enjoyed golf and gardening, but above all, loved spending time with his family. He was loved, especially for his gentleness, kindness and marvelous sense of humor.
Donald was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Ella, in 2013.
Surviving are his son, James (Susan) Rhinehart of Skaneateles; daughters, Dr. Mary Ellen Rhinehart of Boston, MA, Julie (Martin) Pohl of NYC, Jeanne (Dean) Cobin of Mahwah, NJ, Catherine (Tim) Eagan of Boston, MA, Carol (Mark) Kopp of Camillus and Teresa (Mike) Dembowski of Fairfax, VA; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the most dedicated and caring employees of Greenpoint and his personal aides, Joan, Rosie, Jenny, Janet and Ann for making Donald’s later years, “super good.”
Services will be private. Donald will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
