Donald J. Piston

Donald Joseph Piston, 76, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Upstate University Hospital at Community General. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, he was born on Wednesday, February 5, 1936 and was the son of Joseph Piston and Esther Kyrek Piston. Donald graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in business administration. He retired from the Westhill Central School District and was a well-known accordion player. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Rosemarie Farrugia; son, Michael; sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Robert Fox; and grandsons, Joseph, David, Daniel and Mark Piston, all of Syracuse. Relatives and friends may call Friday, November 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Panakhyda services will be 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by the Liturgy for the Deceased at 1 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Donald will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Camillus Foundation, 813 Fay Rd., Syracuse, NY 13219.
